I am interested in capturing moments in time, whether it be historical as inspired by old photographs or a contemporary view of life as I see it. I love the sea and the all the mysteries held within it... deep chasms of rich colour and beauty, dark turbulent waves, modern and historical secrets, wild and exotic fish and translucent life forms both real and imaginary. Living by the sea has had this effect on me, penetrating my work in both bold and subtle ways.
When I paint, I think about conveying movement, colour and power but inside I feel quiet serenity and total peace. The paintings contain scenes of places that I have visited, portraying a landscape which is both intimate and epic. People are diminished onlookers giving the land and seascapes a sense of scale and importance. I am influenced by Turner, Hockney and Diebenkorn.
I studied drawing and painting in the 80’s in Vancouver and Toronto, Canada, spending one year in Florence, Italy as part of my Fine Art Degree. Currently, I exhibit at Two Tree Gallery in Leigh on Sea, Essex. I am also teach art at privately in Leigh-on-Sea.
